The Kailua Kona real estate area features many of the aspects of a tropical paradise for which Hawaii in known throughout the world. Most of the residents that live in Kailua Kona real estate neighborhoods know about the history of the region. In the 19th century, Hawaii, which includes Kailua Kona real estate, was known as the Sandwich Islands. Proprietors of Kailua Kona real estate can tell you that name came from the 18th-century English 4th Earl of Sandwich. He is the same Earl that gave his name to the sandwich that you eat in the many fine restaurants in the Kailua Kona real estate quarter! The Earl of Sandwich was a staunch supporter of Captain Cook's expedition during which Europeans first visited the Pacific islands of Hawaii and what is known as the Kailua Kona real estate region in 1778.

The friendly people you meet in the Kailua Kona real estate vicinity may recall from their grade school history classes that on his second visit to Hawaii Captain Cook met his death. He was killed at Kealakekua Bay, not such a far distance from the Kailua Kona real estate quarter in 1779 during a disagreement with the neighboring people. A Hawaiian chief had stolen a boat from one of Captain Cook's ship. Local history books of the Kailua Kona real estate area will tell you that Cook and his crew made an attempt to kidnap another Hawaiian chief with the idea of holding him ransom until the boat was returned. The lore of the Kailua Kona real estate region goes on to say that when the local people fought back to protect their chief, and Captain Cook was killed in the fighting.

Despite Captain Cook's demise, the islands of Hawaii and the Kailua Kona real estate region became popular with the British and many other people from various parts of Europe. Although Hawaii and the Kailua Kona real estate district has never been part of the British Empire, it has an affinity for the British. This is demonstrated by the fact that the design of the state flag includes the British Union Jack and can be seen in state flags flown in the Kailua Kona real estate area. It can be wonderful to own a prime piece of Kailua Kona real estate, not only for the tropical atmosphere, but also for the exciting events in history that took place in the area.
