Checking out the night sky from the Big Island lava fields is an unearthly experience. The landscape models that of the moon. There is an impenetrable darkness here that envelops you. It can be unsettling. All you need to do is look up to escape to the skies. There can be an overwhelming feeling of humbleness from this area. Remember to wear good shoes to protect your feet. Bring a flashlight so you can maneuver around to pick out a great spot to see the sky.
