Oahu Luxury BeachOahu luxury homes can be perfect for people that love to surf Hawaii's fantastic winter waves. Called "he'e nalu" by the ancient Polynesians 2000 years ago, surfing was mastered by these ocean-going people. This translates to "wave sliding". The ancient Polynesians migrated to the Hawaiian Islands on large outrigger canoes bringing surfboards called "long boards". While every man, woman and child surfed, only the elite had access to the very best beaches. The legendary King Kamehameha himself was an excellent surfer. There was a powerful connection that these people felt between themselves and the ocean. Their mystic bond with the oceans was inherent and they reveled in surfing.

In the 1900s, surfing really became a highly popular trend. In those early days, when one spoke of surfboards, he meant long boards. These boards were originally carved from solid wood like balsa or redwood and were 8 feet to 24 feet long. They could weigh as much as 150 pounds. The modern surfboard is composed of polyurethane foam and fiberglass. It has shrunk and evolved into various sizes with specific modifications.

Hawaiians can delight in the experience of magnificent winter storm swells from the comfort of their Oahu luxury homes. From November to January, enormous wave swells produced by violent storms in the North Pacific travel back to land on the North Shore coastline. These waves are dangerous. Surfing enthusiasts all over the world flock to these beaches in search of the perfect wave.

During the months of November and December, the champions of the surfer elite, flock to Oahu's magnificent beaches for the most action packed surf contests in the world. The XBox Gerry Lopez Pipeline Masters, the Rip Curl Cup at Sunset Beach, and the Van's Hawaiian Pro at Ali'i Beach Park in Hale'iwa, comprise the Van's Triple Crown of Surfing.
